This funny little ditty about our preferred mode of fashion was dreamed up in 2003 and solidified in my sleep-deprived haze on the way back from taping an appearance on the WWL morning news in November of 2004. We recorded a crude demo of it and put it aside until the more jazz-astute Dr. A Rachnid joined the group, then dusted it off and gussied it up with a beautifully corny jazz guitar solo. We performed it on the WWL morning news in 2007 and in 2008, this became Lab Girl Trixie's feature solo song, as its 1920's style perfectly suited her old-school vibe. When Dr. Formelda Hyde-Pinkerton joined the group in 2010, she took over lead vocal duties and made this song her own.
For the official album version, we enlisted the help of New Leviathan Oriental Foxtrot Orchestra drummer Carl Mack to play the skins, and recorded the whole thing live with bass, vocals, guitar and piano. Icing on the cake was provided by Carl's historically significant set of tuned cowbells, purchased from the original Spike Jones orchestra!
lyrics
If you're feeling out of place
Experiment blows up in your face
Just put on your lab coat and hit the town
Boss man looking quite annoyed
Thinks you should be unemployed
So put on your lab coat and hit the town
It's a wonder what a good lab coat will do
Keeps you warm, fits your form
And makes you feel slightly smarter too
Now you're feeling not so great
Could be the arsenic that you ate
So take off your lab coat, and hit the ground
Take it! (guitar solo)
It's amazing what a good lab coat will do
Keeps you warm, fits your form
And makes you feel slightly smarter too
They don't write songs like this no more
We did it cause we got bored
So purchase a lab coat
I said go get a lab coat
And put on that lab coat
And hit the town!

These guys ROCK... and they have an awesome spaceship! This may be because we have not yet stolen the aforementioned spaceship, but of course that still doesn't change the fact that they ROCK. Consortium of Genius
