about

"Hey Dr. Z, remember that missing dog of yours? I've got good news and bad news! Good news is I found him!" "Oh yes, very good! Where is my little Osama Bin Lapdog?" "Well, bad news is I found him under my car..."

Early in 2001 when Jim Fairchild (Dr. Z) had just joined the band, we were very excited about the new synergy and energy that a new band member inevitably brings, and this precipitated a creative outburst of jamming and writing. Some of these songs, such as 'Cat Hell' and 'Ride the Dragon' haven't made it past the demo stage (yet!) but this one somehow did. We were jamming on an AC/DC style riff, largely lifted from 'TNT', and I wrote the most obnoxious lyrics I could think of!

The original intent was to have members of local hard rock band Supagroup guest star on this track, but when they couldn't make it, I dedicated it to one of the original inspirations for the stage version of the Consortium of Genius back in '95 - Boston's hard roque quartet The Upper Crust.

This was one of the first songs recorded and finished for 'In C.O.G. We Trust', and one of the last songs to use a strictly organic guitar sound - a Les Paul, played through a Marshall JCM 900, miked up in the iso booth with a Shure 57. After Jeff was finished the guitar tracks, we had members of our sibling band Antarctica vs. the World join us on gang vocals for the chorus.

lyrics

Well I was rockin' out in my G.T.O.
I had the Upper Crust 8-track all the way up
When I glanced to the road below
And I saw this little pee-wee Pekingese pup
Well I ran over that little Shih Tzu, and when I jumped outta my car
He was-a stuck to the heel of my shoe! And that's just where we are right now

Because yer dawg iz ded - D.E.D.
And now his furz all read - R.E.A.D.
Cause I cwushed his wittle hed! H.E.D.
And now yer - yer dawg iz ded! Yeah!

I hear ya yell out, "Oh my dawg!" But nobody seems to hear
And now yer little dawg's dedder than a log, wit tha flies on his floppy ears
Well I'm tha one who did tha deed! And I'm tha only dawg you need! Yeah
I'm just a mangy malnourished scrapyard mutt but hey,
At least I'm easy to feed! Yeah rite

Because yer dawg iz ded - D.E.D.
You say his name wuz Phread P.H.R.E.A.D.
He was a pure bread - B.R.E.A.D.
But now he's just plain stinkin' dead! Yeah!

I hear ya still miss that little pup
I say well that's just fine
Why don't we erect a temple to that lazy mutt? Plant some flowers in his rotten behind!
Well now my karma ran ovah yer dawgma and now
That's an end to that
Why don't you go ahead and end it all
Just get yerself a mutha freakin' cat meow
Because yer dawg iz ded - D.E.D.
And now his furz all read - R.E.A.D.
Cause I cwushed his wittle hed! H.E.D.
And now yer - yer dawg iz ded! Yeah!

Because yer dawg iz ded - D.E.D.
You say his name wuz Phread P.H.R.E.A.D.
He was a pure bread - B.R.E.A.D.
But now he's just plain ol' dead! Yeah!
Plain ol' stinkin' dead! Yeah!
